Well, I didn't made 3,000. Again. Seems like I'm always on track at the end of November, and then December blows up. This year, it was bad weather . . . colder than normal, and early snow. 20" worth. Ack!
But that's OK. It's been a good year, and I'm happy with my 2009 mileage. There's always 2010.
We are, as usual for this time of the year, in Florida, spending 2 weeks on first one coast, then the other. Today's ride was in Palm Beach County, starting from Coral Cove Park. First, we biked to Jupiter, to Little Moir's Food Shack for lunch. Ummm . . . their oysters are grand, and they serve them on a wonderful salad that includes mango, honeydew, cantaloupe, and gorgonzola.
(Lousy pic; I only had my cameraphone.)
Afterward, we found some lovely Working Cow ice cream. Love this logo (and their double-choc-chip with choc flakes):
We then biked down A1A to Juno, and back. It was a lovely day - the temps have been a bit cool in Florida this week, but today was perfect.
So, a 2009 recap: I've not posted much. We've done few special rides, as Jeff's still not 100% recovered from his accident. But he gets stronger every month . . . and I think next year we will be able to do more organized rides. I've also had issues with my right (surgical) knee. It aches after long, flat rides. I'm not real sure how much I can push it, mile-wise. I'm fine on 25 mile rides that are rolling or hilly; it's the unrelenting flats that murder me. Next year, I'll push the envelope a bit and see what I can do to increase length and speed.
Total miles for the year: 2,927
First ride of the year: 1/1/09, 20 mile loop including Stuart and Jensen Beach.
Last ride: Today's ride, 25 miles, including 9 miles I tacked on after we got back to the park.
Longest ride of the year: 9/12/09, 65 miles, Amish ride in Dover, DE. That's the one that caused me to limp for a couple of days . . . dead flat pedaling.
Shortest ride of the year: 10/25/09, 1.07 miles. Blowout of my front tire; I could not fix on the road so had to walk my bike back.
Slowest ride of the year: 8.2 mph on 5/10/09, a toodle in Baltimore on my MTB.
Fastest ride of the year: 16.6 mph for 40 miles, 1/4/09. This was a ride with my friends in Clearwater, part of the Suncoast Cycling Club. I hung on for dear life. This was not only the fastest ride of the year, it was the fastest ride of my life. (I think my lungs still hurt.)
Strangest ride: the "sofa chair" I pedaled in Berlin (rainstorm and all).
Other stats: most monthly miles, September (348). Number of days ridden: 183. Average ride length: just shy of 16 miles.
Let's see what 2010 brings . . . maybe another road bike. I need a backup for when my Serotta's in the shop.
